Let's Break This Up Part 1 - Sports

Peyton Manning, I had faith in you, I really did.  That Bill Belichick thought he was such a badass and you showed him, fuck up and the Colts will take you down.

I can't say that I finished watching the game last night.  I did watch the most important parts on the internet this morning though.  After making an awesome dinner or pork chops & mashed potatoes, at 9 I finally got to settle in for the evening and watch some football.  My beloved Steelers had already disappointed me, so I was hoping to salvage this week's football picks with the night game.  I can say I wasn't impressed with anything that happened early on in the game.  Kyle got back to the house at half time and I snuggled into my favorite spot in the bed.  I caught maybe 3 minutes of the 3rd quarter.  When I woke up during the 4th quarter, there was only like 5 minutes left and the Colts were still down pretty significantly.  Oh well, I would lose the pool this week.  No big deal right then, I was comfy and fell back asleep, stupid glasses on and all.  Needless to say, when I looked at the scores this morning, I was a happy girl.  Starting a Monday with an extra $50 in the wallet makes me happy.  I'm sure all the boys that participate in my football pool are being haters right now.  Out of 10 weeks of ball, a guy has only won one week.  We're not talking rocket science here boys.  It's 30 games college/pro and you pick the winner.  No over/under, none of that.  Just pick your winner....  I RULE.....

This is an important week in Columbus (cue HUGE EYE ROLL).  It's Michigan week, and even though Michigan has a for shit team this year, it's a big deal that everyone act like an Ohio State douchebag all week.  Why do I like Michigan week?  Well, besides when Michigan wins (I REALLY like that) it's a PARRRRRTY week.  Yeah, you have to deal with more Hang on Sloopy than you'd ever wanna hear, but it's an awesome time.  I'll be attending parties on Thursday night, Friday all day and Saturday, which all should be a great time.  In addition, our favorite local band LDNL is playing up at my sister's bar on Saturday night AND Forrest Griffin is fighting Tito on Saturday night.  TWO of my favorite things in one night????? Fucking awesome.  I like both Tito and Forrest, so I'm hoping for a good fight, though I don't know how much training Tito's getting in being a family man and all these days.

Speaking some more of UFC, did anyone see the Couture/Vera fight Saturday night?  What a bunch of shit.  Yeah, Randy Couture was good back in the day, but he shoulda stayed retired.  Now he's in the middle of this 5 (?) fight contract and is sucking.  There WAS NO WAY IN HELL that he should have won that fight on Saturday night, especially by unanimous decision.  Brandon Vera beat him plain & simple and had that been a Pay-Per-View fight I would have been pissed I paid for that shit.  That's all I'm gonna say about that.

Lastly, in family sports news, Brandon played with Gavin's indoor soccer team this weekend.  Since Gavin's team is playing up an age group to get more competition, Brandon was eligible and we had a couple of kids out, so we needed him.  Brandon played soccer for about 5 years when he was younger, so he had the basic skills, he just isn't nearly as good as these kids.  He had an awesome game, even scoring a goal!!  Gavin had like 5 shots on goal, all of which were just off their mark, but had a bunch of sweet assists for goal.  We ended up winning like 14-1.  The last 15 minutes of the 2nd half were spent playing keep away from the other team, which is boring, but lets the kids work on skills and tricks in a practical atmosphere.  I was a proud mama leaving the complex on Saturday.  I know most people don't have any respect for soccer because this is a football nation, but when my kid is making millions playing in Europe when he's older, I'll smile and nod my head at all the haters.....

Most people just don't understand the sport.  That's ok.  My ex-husband used to say that soccer was for pussies and that he never wanted his kid playing.  Watching recreational level kids play is boring, I'll give you that.  But that's what we do as parents, support our kids in whatever they want to do.  Gavin has played year round since he was 4.  He moved up to a competitive team 3 years ago.  Once I learned the rules of the game and how, once you get out of the rec league, physical the game is, I have grown to accept the sport.  We go see our local professional team regularly, mostly because it's cheap.  I can't afford to take my kids to Cleveland or Cincy to go to football and baseball games, but we can go to a Crew game and have a great time for like $50.  Plus, when we go, Gavin's face lights up and he tells me how someday that's gonna be him.

Innocent children full of dreams and aspirations, no matter what they are, make us step back for a minute and remember what we wanted to be when we grew up.  What do you wanna be?

Soccer is not for pussies. It's played in every country around the world. It also takes some skills to play.

Mikey, it's always good to start off the week like this, you know what I'm talking about, even though your cash cow has been running a little light the last couple of days :)
